About Dr Kat
Education and Experience
Kathleen “Kat” West is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in South Carolina (LPC-A # 8477). She received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Medical University of SC in 2008 after earning a B.A. in Psychology from Clemson University in 2003. She has over 15 years of experience working with adults and teenagers in higher education, specifically working as a professor of psychology. Kat added to her education by earning a Master’s degree in Counseling and Development with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Winthrop University.

"Loving Neighbors"
Dr. Kat is from Rock Hill and is committed to being involved in the community. One of her goals is to provide affordable mental healthcare to anyone in need. She is passionate about mental health and education and regularly volunteers in local schools. She has also been asked to be a presenter at several mental health events, including the most recent for the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority at Winthrop University.

Her counseling philosophy
I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process that considers your life experiences, patterns, relationships, and beliefs that have shaped you and are currently influencing your ways of being in the world. You are the only one who has experienced your life; therefore, I encourage you to think of yourself as the expert. I am not here to tell you what to do; rather, I am here to help guide you along your journey to healing and wellness. My goal is to empower you and assist you in expanding healthy awareness, rather than to give you advice.
